What about our advice to bet on tennis?

As with all sports betting, it's important to gather a lot of information to bet effectively.

Do you watch tennis tournaments regularly or are you a novice? Do you know the players and their records? Today, Circus explains how to stack all the odds in your favor.

  1. Learn the rules of a tennis match: so you can follow the match and understand its subtleties.
  2. Create a table with all the information mentioned in point 2, especially for the matches that interest you.
  3. Analyze the odds: they can tell you about the outcome of a match, without being 100% certain. Lower odds are more likely to win and, on the contrary, higher odds indicate that the match will be difficult to win. However, a match is never a foregone conclusion, and the situation can shift at any moment. Someone who bets an amount of money on high odds and wins can sometimes pocket a handsome sum, but this is rare.
  4. Follow bookmakers: in order to learn more about the different odds and get professional advice. Don't hesitate to check the bookmakers' results, to see how many predictions they've won and if you can trust their opinion or not.
  5. Avoid a “professional” who promises you 100% winning odds! It's impossible to predict that you'll win.
  6. Don't try a bet to make good your losses: it's a reckless way of doing things to make money. If you lose a bet, take it as a lesson and keep a record of your wins and losses, so you can understand why it didn't work out.
  7. Avoid betting on a whim or only on your favorites: it's another easy way to lose money! Betting on a whim is a reckless act and betting only on your favorite sportsmen and women is a bad strategy, especially if they have bad odds or their performances aren't up to scratch.
  8. Get information about the players and their environment: a lot of information is useful when betting. As an example:
  • The playing surface (clay, grass, hard surface): some players perform better on certain surfaces;
  • The player’s experience: for how long have they been playing tennis? Have they already performed in big competitions? What about their results?;
  • Their career: are they a player at their peak or in decline?;
  • Pre-Olympic training: did it go well? Did the players have any particular problems during the various training sessions?;
  • The physical and mental condition of the players: a reawakening injury or recent illness can be a real disadvantage and can question a match. Mental state is also an important factor to take into account, as a player who doesn’t have competition spirit during a match may find themselves dominated, even by a physically weaker opponent. Physical and mental state are therefore 2 key elements in a match. You can’t have one without the other and if both are missing, it’s a disaster!;
  • Weather conditions: some players are more resistant to certain conditions than others. Their play can therefore be influenced by the weather;
  • The number of victories and losses in the past year: has the athlete performed well in their matches, and do they have many victories in their collection?;
  • The game outline: the player can adopt a different tactic to play on his opponent's weak points and dominate the match.

What are the rules of tennis?

Tennis is played by 2 or 4 players, according to a very specific points system:

  • System with no draw:  0, 15, 30, 40, game won;
  • With a draw: if the 2 players are at 40 - 40, there is a draw. The player who scores the 1st point wins an “advantage”. If they score the second point, the game is won. Otherwise, the game returns to a draw. When there is a draw, 2 points in a row are required to win the game.

To win a set, you need to win 6 games, as long as there is a 2-game difference between the players (example:   6 - 4). If there is only one game difference (example:  6 - 5), then one game must be played again. What if the game reaches 7 - 5? Then the set is won and another set begins. What if the game reaches 6 - 6? A seventh game (tie-break) will decide the winner.

For women, the number of sets to win is 2, and for the men, it's 3 sets (2 for the Olympic Games).

What about the qualifiers for tennis at the Olympic Games?
